Project iRemember  (Feb 2017)

14/1/2017

Project iRemember (Dementia Screening) 18 Feb 2017
SMSANZ collaboration with NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine

What is iRemember?

Do you remember what you ate yesterday? What about today? Or even where you live? These are some of the simple things that we take for granted in our daily lives.

However, with Singapore’s ageing population, Dementia is now a growing problem facing Singapore. Memory can no longer be taken for granted. iRemember is a project revolving around the geriatric needs of our elderly population with an emphasis on mental degeneration.

Fortunately, YOU are part of the solution!!

Early detection has been shown to slow or even reverse progression of Dementia and you can be a part of our efforts to combat dementia! Hence, we want to recruit passionate individuals such as  YOU to reactivate the mental cogwheels of our participants.

What are the roles of volunteers?

1) Geriatric health screening
You would be involved in performing health screening tailored for the elderly population of Singapore. Considering 1 in 5 Singaporeans will be above 65 years old by 2030, this is a great skill to learn for future healthcare professionals such as yourself.

2) Administering Mental Cognitive Tests
You are key to potentially uncovering early signs of dementia within our participants. You will be taught how to carry out these tests, so not to worry! You will also get the opportunity to interact with the elderly at a deeper level.

3) Spreading awareness (Optional but highly encouraged to attend door-to-door publicity on 1 or 2 days in the week 6-10 February)
We will be personally paying our elderly participants door to door visits before the actual screening too! We will be asking them more about their lives to see how else we might be able to help and reminding them to attend the actual screening.
